Some pieces begin with a design. Spalted Midnight Tides began with the wood.
Crafted from an exceptionally rare slab of spalted maple with natural curl, this one-of-a-kind console table showcases figuring that nature rarely produces in a single piece. Dark wandering lines move through luminous maple grain, creating an organic landscape that changes across the length of the table.
Following the slab's natural contours, deep sapphire-blue epoxy flows along the edge and through natural openings in the wood. Depending on the light, the resin shifts from near-black midnight blue to luminous jewel-toned sapphire—giving the table the appearance of dark water moving alongside the maple.
And then there's another layer of maple hiding underneath.
The apron and integrated center drawer are crafted from figured birdseye maple, adding a distinctly different pattern and texture without competing with the extraordinary slab above it.
The result is part furniture, part functional art—and a piece that could never be duplicated.
Beauty With Somewhere to Hide the Keys
Spalted Midnight Tides isn't simply a statement surface.
A center drawer is integrated discreetly into the birdseye maple apron, providing convenient storage while preserving the console's clean profile. Keys, mail, charging cords and the assorted small things that inevitably collect near an entryway can disappear without requiring baskets or additional storage.
Straight black steel legs ground the highly figured wood and sapphire resin with a clean architectural contrast, allowing the top to remain the unmistakable focal point.
At approximately 14 inches deep, its narrow profile also makes it particularly suited to spaces where a full-size piece of furniture would overwhelm the room.
Three Maples. One Remarkable Piece.
What makes this table particularly unusual isn't simply that it's handmade.
The primary slab combines spalting and natural curl in maple, while the drawer and apron introduce the distinctive figuring of birdseye maple. Those patterns weren't printed, painted or designed—they grew in the trees themselves.
The sapphire epoxy doesn't attempt to make that natural material uniform. Instead, it follows and preserves the irregularities that make the slab extraordinary.
The underside is sealed with polyurethane, while the tabletop is finished with Rubio Monocoat, protecting the wood while allowing its grain, figuring and natural character to remain tactile and visible.

Spalted Midnight Tides belongs to a limited three-piece furniture series created from the same remarkable slab.
The matching coffee table has already been completed, with an end table planned from the remaining material. Each piece carries its own section of the slab—and therefore its own grain, spalting, curl and sapphire-blue landscape.
They belong together.
They will never be identical.
Made Once. Never Repeated.
There will only ever be one Spalted Midnight Tides console table.
Another piece can be made from spalted maple. Another can feature sapphire epoxy. Another might even incorporate birdseye maple.
But another tree cannot reproduce these exact lines, curls, voids and markings.
