Hearts & Hands Behind Nightshade Nook
Small batch. Big heart. Handmade décor that’s as personal as the people behind it.
Our Creative Chaos – Meet the Team
Welcome to the creative whirlwind behind Nightshade Nook. We’re a tiny-but-mighty team blending coffee-fueled energy with sawdust and strategy, handcrafting every piece with purpose. Here’s where you’ll meet the makers, the mischief, and the meaning behind our work. Because when décor tells a story, it starts with the storytellers.
Behind the Craft at Nightshade Nook Decor
At Nightshade Nook, our story is carved from curiosity, creativity, and a shared passion for building a life we love—one handcrafted piece at a time.
Niki is the creative compass and strategic heart of Nightshade Nook. With a dual background in Computer Science and Botany, she brings a rare blend of tech-savvy precision and a deep appreciation for nature. She built our website from the ground up, runs all our marketing and social content, and still finds time to paint nearly every canvas and wood round we offer. Her favorite holiday is Halloween, she’s fueled by coffee, and yes—she’s fiercely particular about mica powder color choices.
Jeff, with a background in Architecture, found his true calling in woodworking. He’s the builder, fixer, and live-edge lumber whisperer behind many of our signature pieces. While his energy is chill and measured, make no mistake—he’s got a craftsman’s grit and attention to detail. He turned the greenhouse he once built for Niki into a solar kiln, and we now use it (and the attached shed) to dry and store the locally sourced live edge wood that’s central to our work. St. Patrick’s Day is his favorite holiday, and if you spot a project that leans toward deep forest greens, there's a good chance it's his handiwork.
We use WiseBond epoxy, made in the USA, and every wood slab we work with is purchased locally—because we care about quality and community in equal measure. Everything we make is crafted in small batches, not mass-produced. We're not a factory—we're hands-on from start to finish.
We started out by making wreaths and grew from there—bit by bit, board by board. What began as seasonal decor blossomed into a full-scale passion project: charcuterie boards, epoxy resin art, hand-painted canvases, and live edge furniture, all created with intention and heart.
Our workshop is equal parts chaos and magic. Sawdust settles between color swatches and coffee cups. Debates about wood grain are as common as dog hair on our aprons. Freya, our sleek and serious Irish Terrier, steals coffee when no one’s looking. Her laid-back sister Teagan pops in for occasional quality control, while Bailey, our ever-loyal Cheagle, never lets Niki out of his sight.
We’re not a factory—we’re a family business. Every piece we make carries a bit of us: a flash of inspiration, a Saturday’s worth of sanding, a brushstroke done just right, a laugh shared over epoxy. We create not just for beauty, but for meaning. We believe the things in your home should reflect who you are, just like this business reflects who we are.
Why We Don’t Have a Storefront
We don’t have a storefront—and that’s entirely intentional. While many chase rapid expansion and retail visibility, we’ve chosen a different path—one rooted in hands-on craftsmanship, not overhead and leases. Every minute we’re not managing a retail space is a minute we’re in the workshop: hand-painting, pouring, sanding, finishing, and making sure each piece we ship meets our exacting standards.
We’ve seen beloved big-box stores fade—Bed Bath & Beyond, Joann Fabrics—and it’s only strengthened our resolve to grow with purpose, not pressure. Integrity over expansion. Quality over volume.
Choosing not to have a storefront allows us to remain rooted in what matters most. It gives us the freedom to be intentional with each piece we create, the flexibility to experiment with new ideas, and the space to do it all in our own beautifully chaotic way. It also lets us keep our overhead low, so we can continue creating handcrafted décor that’s both artful and accessible.
By keeping things small batch and hands-on, we’re able to focus on quality over quantity. We don’t rush. We don’t outsource. We stay close to the work and closer still to our mission: to make meaningful pieces that feel at home in your home.
Welcome to our corner of creativity. Welcome to Nightshade Nook.
